. A group of children in Drogheda, Ireland is believed to have killed a mother cat and her kitten by throwing fireworks at them last week.
The children aged from 8 to 12 allegedly killed the kitten first, and when the mother came looking for him they targeted her.
Neighbourhood parents are blaming the incident to the easy availability of fireworks.
A mother said her own children had been given five black cat fireworks but she had confiscated them.
“There are boys on crutches because they have been injured with this. It is everywhere and not just where I live.”
John Carmody with Animal Rights Action Network said: “We are not one bit surprised, but are incredibly angry with the latest case of extreme cat cruelty in Drogheda.”
The group is planning to give informative talks in schools to prevent future incidents.
