The demolition of the bullring in the city of Concepción, Peru has officially begun.
Concepción was the first city in Peru to abolish bullfighting and the demolition is considered the end to the fight against bullfighting.
Jesús Chipana, city mayor, said: “We declared Concepción a city against bullfighting because the shows that were held in this ring were completely hellish and didn’t respect animal life.”
The demolition was promoted by municipal authorities due to the poor estate of the 57-year-old building and to the pleasure of anti-bullfighting activists, they were able to participate.
“At this site of 20,000 square meters, we will build a convention centre, sports facilities and a stage for horse shows,” the mayor said.
