.     After claims from Canada that the seal fur ban in Europe should be removed because the hunt they carry out is humane, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) ruled on Monday that the ban is legal due to ‘moral concerns’.
Canada argued that the hunt is humane and that the EU was not sincere in its desire to protect animal welfare, but the WTO didn’t cave and upheld their 2009 decision confirming that the ban on seal products can be justified as a reflection of European ethical and moral concerns about the “pain, distress, fear and other forms of suffering” that hunting and skinning cause to seals.
