David Sánchez Guevara, mayor of Naucalpan, city and municipality located just northwest of Mexico City, approved the ban of animal performances in circuses.
“In this county, the animal rights community is loud and is committed to the cause. This is an effort that seeks to make Naucalpan the first municipality in Mexico State to intervene in this matter,” Sánchez Guevara said.
The new law bans the display and participation of animals in both private and public shows, whatever the species.
The law dictates fines of 300 days minimum wage for anyone who fails to comply.
