Animal performances in circuses have been officially banned in another 3 Mexican states and 1 Mexican city.
The new states to join the animal welfare movement are Chihuahua, Colima and Querétaro. And the city of León in Guanajuato became the first municipality in the state to ban animal shows in its territory.
Chihuahua deputy María Ávila Serna, where the ban was voted unanimously, said: “The initiative includes the obligation of local authorities to seize all the animals used in circuses and send them to wildlife centres.”
Jesús Sesma Suárez, with the Green Party, congratulated the city of León for also banning under 14-year-olds from shows where animals are mistreated.
