Tanzanian authorities have arrested six men in Kayombo for being in possession of 55 elephant tusks and a sub-machine gun, reported Tanzania’s Daily News.

Authorities believe the alleged poachers took the tusks from elephants in the Rungwa and the Kizigo game reserves. The carcasses are being searched.

“We have dispatched a team of rangers as well as police officers to comb the entire reserves because intelligence reports suspect more culprits could still be in the forest with more government trophies,” said the Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism Lazaro Nyalandu.
