International animal welfare organization Animal Defenders has just announced that Belgium has banned the use of wild animal in circuses.

“We are delighted to hear from our friends at GAIA that the law to ban wild animals in circuses in Belgium has now passed.

You may recall that parliament voted overwhelmingly to pass the Bill in December but it was awaiting Senate approval.

This is wonderful news and Belgium joins the growing number of nations around the world that are voting to stop circus suffering,” ADI wrote on their Facebook page.

Belgium has now joined Greece, Denmark, Austria, Czech Republic, Finland, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, India, Israel, Taiwain and hundreds of cities across the world where animals are no longer subjected to cruel training and performances for our entertainment.
