Almost 60 animals were rescued from a suspected puppy mill in North Carolina last Friday, HSUS reported.
Rutherford County authorities found the animals while responding to a complaint. Together with HSUS and local animal welfare organizations they set up their rescue.
Over 50 dogs and 6 cats were seized for living in filthy abusive conditions. Many of them were in need of urgent medical care as a result of neglect.
The alleged puppy mill owner was selling the animals on the internet and had already been charged with animal cruelty in 2002.
