Three alleged rhino poachers have been arrested in the Phinda Private Game Reserve in Hluhluwe, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
The men were seen entering the reserve on Monday afternoon and were approached by authorities who were met with gunshots. One poacher was shot and taken to hospital.
“He was found in possession of a 308 hunting rifle with five live rounds. The other suspects were also arrested and found in possession of [an] axe,” said Major Thulani Zwane.
The men are scheduled to appear in court next week on charges of illegal rhino hunting and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
