A total of 121 sheep were killed in Cedar City, Utah, when the semitrailer transporting them crashed on Friday, reported the Associated Press.
Authorities said the driver didn’t appear to be impaired or distracted and are trying to determine what happened to make the trailers end upside down.
The driver, Wade Webster, son of the rancher who owns the sheep, was pulling two trailers carrying between 320-330 sheep. Webster didn’t realize he had lost the trailers until he stopped to unload sheep he had been hauling in another vehicle.
According to him, locals helped him regroup the surviving sheep after the accident until authorities came. Some of those were euthanized as ordered by the sheep’s owner.
