A donkey that was stabbed 12 times last November in Cwmbran, Wales, has made a full recovery now.
The 23-year-old donkey Cheeky was found with 12 puncture wounds all over her body in her stable at Greenmeadow Community Farm.
After a police appeal asking for information two 17-year-old boys were arrested but had to be released on bail pending further investigations.
“We were very disappointed no-one was convicted of this terrible attack,” said the farm’s commercial manager Kate Holly.
Cheeky was able to pull through thanks to specialized emergency care and the help of kind strangers.
“We had messages of support from around the world, including donations from America, Australia and Singapore,” said Holly.
A local security company also helped by installing more CCTV cameras for free on the farm so nothing like this happens again.
Cheeky is one of three donkeys at the farm used to help people to learn how to interact with animals. According to Horse and Hound, the farm has 70,000 visitors annually and at Easter more than 2,000 people came to see the animals.
“Cheeky is a much loved character at the farm and this senseless act of animal cruelty has left staff shocked and devastated. We are appealing to anyone who has any information regarding this incident to contact Gwent Police on 101,” wrote the Greenmeadow Community Farm on their website.
