1. Hachiko: The Most Faithful Friend, 2009 (KinoPoisk rating 8.3/10, IMDb 8.1/10)
The British-American melodrama of Lasse Hallstrom invariably gets into the top films that everyone is recommended to watch. This is a remake of the 1987 drama The Story of Hachiko. The plot is based on the story of Akita Inu from Japan. After the death of the owner, the dog came to the station for 9 years in the hope of meeting him from work. The picture reveals the relationship between man and dog, shows boundless loyalty and true love, touching to the depths of the soul.
It is interesting that some dog handlers evaluate the actions of the most faithful dog from a different angle. Referring to the stubbornness of the breed, experts believe that Hachiko came to the same place not because of devotion to the character of Richard Gere, but because he was used to leading such a lifestyle. And what do you think?
2. Dog's Life 1, 2017 (KinoPoisk 7,9/10, IMDb 7,2/10) and Dog Life 2, 2019 (KinoPoisk 8/10, IMDb 7.4/10)
This is an amazing story about a dog whose love can overcome even death. Bailey the dog dies and is reborn, but in every life he is looking for his first owner Ethan. The dog manages to be a charming mongrel, golden retriever, German Shepherd, Welsh Corgi Pembroke and St. Bernard. With each reincarnation, Bailey understands people more and more, thanks to which she eventually finds Ethan and helps the man who has lost his bearings to become happy again. And in the second part, the beloved dog will return, but for the sake of the granddaughter of the main character. Other breeds are involved in the sequel: Mountain Dog, beagle, Burbul, Yorkshire Terrier.
By the way, the director of the first part of "Dog's Life" is the same as that of "Hachiko". Is there any noticeable progress?
3. White captivity, 2005 (KinoPoisk 8.1/10, IMDb 7.3/10)
The famous film starring Paul Walker is dedicated to the survival of dogs in Antarctica. The film is based on the 1983 Japanese drama "Antarctic History". The events shown actually happened. Brave Siberian huskies had to survive in harsh conditions for six months. The film shows the true strength and devotion of dogs, which sometimes surpass people in their moral qualities.
4. White Bim Black Ear, 1977 (KinoPoisk 8,4/10, IMDb 8,2/10)
The two-part Soviet film is an adaptation of the book by Gabriel Troepolsky. The director was Stanislav Rostotsky – a true master of his craft, Winner of the Lenin and two State Prizes of the USSR, who passed the war and managed to convey the whole essence of human nature. Although the film is sad, it is very important to watch it with children at least once, because it teaches humanity and makes us think about our smaller brothers.
Curious fact: according to the plot, Bim is a Scottish setter of white color, but this does not meet the breed standard, so an English setter was shot in the film.
5. Turner and Hooch, 1989 (KinoPoisk 7,6/10, IMDb 6,2/10)
If you want to relax and watch a young Tom Hanks as a detective, pay attention to this movie. The secret of the comedy's success lies in the actor's talent and the Dogue de Bordeaux, which is not inferior to him in charm. 6. The incredible world through Enzo's eyes, 2019 (KinoPoisk 7,8/10, IMDb 7.5/10)
The film is based on the novel "Racing on wet asphalt" by Garth Stein. Unusually, the story is told on behalf of a golden retriever, voiced by Kevin Costner. This is the story of the friendship of the racer Danny and the dog Enzo. Fate has prepared a series of sharp turns for them, and in order to reach the finish line, they will have to face a slippery road of failures. Although from the first minutes it seems that the film will be light and positive, in the end it causes a storm of emotions and gets into the very heart. This dog will show the world how to be human!
7. 101 Dalmatians, 1996 (KinoPoisk 6,8/10, IMDb 5,7/10)
Stephen Herek's bright comedy is based on the novel of the same name by British writer Dodi Smith. For adults, the film will allow plenty of nostalgia, and for children – to see many, many spotted dogs, laugh and at the same time learn instructive lessons from the example of the villainess Cruella De Ville. And if you don't want to sleep after the movie show, then 102 Dalmatians are waiting for you.
A little bit about the difficulties of translation: Cruella is sometimes called a Stervella. The fact is that in English Cruella De Vil is a play on the words cruel ("cruel") and devil ("devil"). When dubbing, the word "bitch" was taken as a basis, which made adjustments. The film also brought great popularity to the Dalmatian breed, but dogs increasingly began to be called Dalmatians, which is not entirely correct.
8. Lassie, 2005 (KinoPoisk 7,3/10, IMDb 6,7/10)
Each generation has its own "Lassie". If you are not familiar with the touching story of this smart and loyal collie, we recommend paying attention to the work of Charles Sturridge. The friendship of the boy Joe and the dog named Lassie overcomes seemingly insurmountable circumstances. Although his father sold the collie to the Duke on account of his debts, the fluffy beauty is stubbornly looking for a way home.
Lassie's story is made up, but that doesn't stop her from having millions of fans around the world. At one time, Lassie was so popular that she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
9. Snow Dogs, 2002 (KinoPoisk 7,1/10, IMDb 5,2/10)
Disney comedy is sure to please both children and adults. The story revolves around Dentist Ted from Miami. It seems that his life was a success, but everything is turned upside down. The movie is perfect for watching with children. Picturesque snowy landscapes, sparkling humor, beautiful and kind animals are presented here in abundance.
10. Island of Dogs, 2018 (KinoPoisk 8.1/10, IMDb 7.9/10)
The American animated film directed by Wes Anderson is unique in its kind. The imagination is struck by puppet animation, political satire, filigree transmission of Japanese culture. "Island of Dogs" takes the 13th place in the list of the highest-grossing puppet cartoons. The action takes place in the future. Dogs are quarantined on a remote island because of "dog flu." The boy Atari Kobayashi also goes there to return his pet Spots. Although the idea of the cartoon is not new: "We are responsible for those who have been tamed," her pitch is nothing compared to anything!
