European Shorthair cat

History

There is an opinion that the place of origin of the European shorthair (it is also called Celtic) is farms, peasant farms remote from other housing. Since the animals existed relatively alone, their offspring also had a fairly clean color. In the process of breeding work, the goal was to breed cats of this breed with more perfect body shapes and improved color. There are various color options for European shorthair: white, blue, cream, red, tortoiseshell.

In many ways, the breed is similar to European domestic ones, since they developed without human involvement. A distinctive feature of the Celtic cat is that purebred individuals have exceptional hunting skills.

Breeding of the breed began in England and France, but the first who thoroughly engaged in the improvement of Celtic cats were breeders from Scotland, Norway, Denmark. The European Shorthair was officially declared a separate breed in 1982 . This is how her separation from the British shorthair happened. Since the beginning of the XX century, serious breeding work has been carried out in European countries. It was necessary for the European breed to collect all the natural signs characteristic of cats living next to people in Northern European cities or villages. It turns out that the breed, although with a long history, is at the same time young.

Appearance

• Color: all types except purple, color point, chocolate, fawn and cinnamon.
• Eyes: rounded, set wide and slightly at an angle, the color corresponds to the color.
• Ears: set wide, slightly rounded, there may be tassels.
• Tail: medium length, wide at the base, tapering to the tip.
• Coat: thick, dense, short, shiny, stiff, close to the body.

Features of behavior

Of course, every cat is different from others to one degree or another and has its own character. But the common features of the representatives of the same breed are still present. As a rule, European shorthair cats are intelligent, very affectionate and quiet cats. They quickly adapt to new conditions, are unpretentious. Almost immediately they become attached to the owner and love him very much, are devoted to him.

But sometimes, among the quiet ones, there are energetic fidgets who love to play and be naughty. They are quite unpredictable. People who appreciate the natural instincts of cats will be comfortable and not bored with them.

Are quite delicate, they are not intrusive. Only something serious - like a real threat to life — can make them lose their temper. Very, very inquisitive.

Do not consider a person a master, he is for them, rather, a neighbor, a partner. They do not show their feelings, they are extremely restrained.

Health and Care

The Celts got a good immunity from their ancestors, so they almost don't get sick, besides they are very hardy. These cats are not afraid to swim, as their nerves are in perfect order. However, European shorthair are very clean themselves.

Keeping the fur in order is quite simple: care consists in combing the cat twice a week at the usual time, and during the molting period it is required to do it every day. It is necessary to comb first against the wool, then in the opposite direction. For the procedure, it is worth using a frequent scallop. At the end, you should collect the fallen wool with a rubber comb.

Kittens will have to take time: they grow slowly, they need constant care and attention.
