History

The ancestors of Singapore cats are street animals that lived in Southeast Asia. Only in the second half of the XX century. American tourists brought cats of this breed from Singapore to their homeland.

Just a year later, Singapore was presented at the exhibition. Despite the fact that Singapore cats appeared in Europe in 1987, this breed is extremely rare in European countries. There are also practically no kennels in Russia where Singapore cats are bred.

According to statistics, cats of this breed are the smallest of the domesticated: the average weight of an adult is only 2-3 kg.

Breed standards vary in different countries. For example, in Singapore itself, a variety of cat colors are recognized, but in the United States of Singapore there can be only two colors: sable-brown or ivory.

Appearance

  • Color: sepia agouti (dark brown ticking on an ivory background).
  • Coat: thin, very short (mandatory in adulthood), fits snugly to the skin.
  • Eyes: large, almond—shaped, set obliquely and wide enough - at a distance of at least the width of the eye, the color is yellow-green, yellow, green without other color impurities.
  • Tail: thin, tapering towards the end, dark tip.

Features of behavior

Singapore cats combine seemingly opposite character traits: energy and calmness, independence and affection for the owner. In communication, representatives of this breed do not cause trouble, do not burden. They can be started in families where there are children — cats will play with the kids and lie quietly next to them when the child is sleeping.

Singapore cats are distinguished by increased curiosity, so you have to make sure that they don't get into trouble by climbing where they don't belong.

Singaporeans are very clean, so there will be no difficulties with teaching them to the tray.

Health and Care

The coat of Singapore cats is very short and without undercoat, so it is easy to take care of it. However, it is desirable to comb it daily, then the cat's fur will be smooth and shiny. Singaporeans are almost omnivorous — they even eat cabbage with pleasure. You can feed them with any food convenient for the owner: both specialized feeds and natural products — these cats do not need to follow a specialized diet.

The ancestors of Singapore — street cats — provided the representatives of the breed with excellent health. At first glance, Singapore cats are slim, but this does not affect their resistance to diseases in any way. There are no diseases typical for the breed. To fully take care of the health of Singapore cats, it is enough just to get vaccinated in time and make sure that they do not catch a cold. Singapore cats are thermophilic (the climate of their native country affects them), so you need to exclude their staying in a draft or sitting on a cold windowsill for a long time.
